Next Steps Pre-school is open from 8.30 am to 4.30pm and is designed for children in the last year before starting school. Extra hours (between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm) are available if required.
The room is divided into areas to allow the children to learn through play, alone or in small and large groups. Next Steps will provide educational equipment, toys and natural materials so that the children can explore and learn about the world around them.
The team in the Pre-School room follow the Early Years Foundation Stages (EYFS) :-
Our team of Early Years specialists is headed up by a Pre-school teacher who designs the Early Years curriculum to suit the needs of the individual children in the setting. Progress is recorded on a daily basis in the child's Learning Journey folder.
Every child will be assigned a trained key carer, who will observe and support them and share all their findings with parents throughout the year, along with termly progress reports and parent's evenings which are scheduled every term. It is also an opportunity to look at each child's learning journeys and to talk together about the appropriate provision and support for their development.
The Pre-School team have formed partnerships with reception teachers in the surrounding schools to ensure that the education we are offering is aligned with the school curriculum.
Your children will also get the opportunity to experience our Forest School, which is linked to the Pre-school room and the team regularly employ a free-flow approach allowing the children access to the classroom outside. We have a library van that visits regularly and all children are encouraged to take a book home to read.
The Clever Kangaroos have designed a polo shirt, sweat shirt and a book bag which is available for purchase.
We can offer Nursery Education Funding which is available to all children the term after their 3rd Birthday.
